You may be considering therapy because there are things about your life that you want to change. You may be experiencing conflict either with others or within yourself. Or perhaps you feel things are not right but youre not really sure why. Whatever the reason, my role is to be alongside you on your journey, creating space for you to explore whatever it is on your mind.
About me and my practice
My approach to working with clients draws on Person-centred Counselling, Gestalt and Transactional Analysis and combines four key components:
You are the expert in your life and know what you want to get out of therapy. You decide what you want to talk about in the session, and you retain responsibility for making your own decisions. This can sound daunting, but Ill be alongside you providing structure and continuity as and when you need it.
The importance of the relationship between you and your therapist. My focus especially in the early stages is on providing a space where you can feel comfortable enough to tell your story at your own pace and explore difficult feelings.
Change happens when we understand and accept who we really are. I will work with you to increase your awareness of the experiences that have led you to where you are today. I will help you to identify patterns of behaviour that may be causing difficulties and to explore options that you identify.
The importance of self-compassion. As we work through the issues you bring to the session, I will encourage you to treat yourself with kindness. I will work with you to notice if you talk about yourself in a critical way and support you to develop self-acceptance.
